Reflections
I find that Winter is always a quiet in the world of car clubs; the first decent shows don’t really start until about May, and people are reluctant to drive the distances for meets with the threat of adverse weather conditions. So what exactly do we do as a club in the meantime?
Not a lot is the answer!
We plod along, chatting on the forum as we usually do. We moan about the weather, and the people who can’t drive in snow. We lose some members and we’ll gain others, and we’ll all of them with any problems as best we can. Admittedly, we get the odd n00b who doesn’t seem to have the slightest of clues about forum ettiquette, but we deal with it.
We might wash our beloved ours, or in some cases, we might leave them for a few months to build up an impressive layer of grime. Come the warmer weather, it’ll get washed off to the typical chorus of “I’d forgotten how bright/shiny/nice my Puma can look.”
As it’s a Ford, we’ll then probably lament the encroachment of the tin worm, the dreaded rust, and some of us will start the hunt for a decent and reasonably priced local bodyshop.
We’ll also plan ahead for the show season to come; planning repairs and touchups, accommodation and convoys, and some of us will hound others for the payments for the shows.
Like the tress and flowers, we’ll await the spring when our cars can flourish again.
